Peasant Waitress

This is my Peasant Waitress character. She was originally designed to be Nos' "love" interest. Being an object of a vampires desire, I gave her a long swan-like neck. The exaggerated proportions were a throw back to a favorite game of mine called "Under the Skin" by Capcom.
The topology was based closely on Mayan Escalante's low-poly Gnomon series.

This model is a first in many ways for me. It was actually my first game character I ever modeled. Now fast-forward about 3 years and it's my first fully textured model as well!

The cartoony design really dictated how I decided to handle the texture painting. It's 100% hand-painted. I chose mostly primary colors for my palate to keep the look simple yet bold.

Specs:

The mesh with Apron comes to:
- 2204 quads
- 2058 verts
- 4010 tris
- one 2048 x 2048 texture map
It was quite a learning experience painting this character. It's been a long time since I worked on this model and looking back on the original concept and I realized (when it came time to paint) i should have pushed the design more. Oh well. It was a fun trying to balance the level of detail with such a simple style.

Typically i do quick sculpts alot when I lose interest in my main projects. It's a great way to warm up and build chops. But my main tool is mudbox. I find it more efficient for quick sculpts (not having to hide stuff to navigate and all). So i figured I better try zbrush! So this is my first go at a quick sculpt in Zed. But I love the transpose and polypaint tools. and Zspheres are the best thing in zbrush hands down. I need to get used to Zeds brushes they feel very different from mud's haha. I wanted to use polypaint for the first time. pretty fun
The Idea behind this character is that he's around 60 years old and just escaped from prison circa 1930. His clothing reflects typical southern prison uniforms from that time. I wanted an easily readable silhouette. I chose to counter balance the simplified design with heavy sculpted detail. Maya and Zbrush 3 were used. the hair design reflects Franks' love of Cigars, Similar to a puff of smoke. Basemesh's were made using maya and Sculpted in Z-Brush 3.1.

From there I tried different proportions, and limb combinations. After I tested the character, I re-flowed the geometry in Maya and took it into Mudbox to continue experimenting. The more I played with a human anatomical construction the more amphibious it looked. Using Images of Salamanders, frogs, whales, and Newts, I decided on an aquatic theme. Basemesh was made using Z-shperes and Maya 8.5 and Sculpted in Mudbox.
